How to remap keys on the ThinkPad USB Keyboard KU-1255
The keyboard I purchased quite some time ago
In 2025, ThinkPad officially acknowledged that the Fn and Ctrl keys were reversed compared to the standard layout, and they changed the layout so that Ctrl is on the left and Fn is on the right.
Since all future ThinkPad models will come with the standard layout, I'm now using my ThinkPad X1 Nano with the Fn and Ctrl keys swapped.
However, since the KU-1255 does not allow this Fn and Ctrl swap, I had stopped using it. But then I found some interesting information:
https://github.com/haborite/ku1255-firmware-modifier
It seems that by rewriting the firmware of the KU-1255 using this software, you can swap the Fn and Ctrl keys.
I gave it a try, and it worked surprisingly easily.
I'm really happy that I can now use this USB keyboard I had almost given up on.
Many thanks!
